Okay, so I had four interviews yesterday. The first was at an oral surgery center. It seemed okay. They have good benefits and the people seem nice. The pay is okay ($10-11 with quarterly bonuses), but it’s full time 7:30-4:30. That’s good and bad. Good because we’ll be making more money and bad because I don’t know if I really want to work full time anymore. I know we’re trying to build up our savings before we start trying to have kids (we’re going to start trying around April or May), but I don’t know if really want to go full time. I want to be able to spend more time with Caleb and do things together, but I’m always so tired when I work full-time hours. But that’s a given when you have CFS. I guess I’ll pray about it and see what the answer is.
The second interview was at a youth crisis center. The people there are SOOOOOOO nice! The regional VP interviewed me along with the girl I’d be replacing and it was fun. In the middle of the assistant asking a question, the RVP asked me what church I went to. (that seems to be a popular question here) I told her I went to the Mormon church and she just went on and on about how much she loves Mormons, that there is another Mormon working in their office and that Mormons are so nice. It was hilarious. When I left, she told me I was her top pick, so not to accept any other jobs. lol. I’m not sure I want to work there, though. When you walk in, you’re just blasted in the face by this aweful smell. It’s like the floorboards are rotting and full of decay. And it’t so dark in there and has such a depressing feeling. Plus, the hours are psychotic. Monday and Friday 9-5, Tuesday and Thursday 9-6, Wednesday 9-7 and Saturday 11-2. The good thing, though, is that they said I could take my lunch hour at 3:00, so I could go pick Caleb up from work and then come straight back. Not much of a lunch hour, but Caleb wouldn’t have to sit at work and wait for me all day. That’s a lot of driving back and forth and this place is about 20 minutes from home. So, yeah, the people are great, but I don’t want to work in a dungeon or work six days a week.
The third interview was at a surgical center. It’s a paperless office that was open, bright, friendly and beautiful. So far, it’s my top pick. It’s part time, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays 7:30-4:30. I can handle that. The pay is excellent, too ($12-14). It also has the option of going full-time in a few months. Well, the first week or two will be full-time until I’m trained, and then the other girl will go part-time and I’ll take over the rest of the hours. So, I really want this job. The only downside is that it is a half an hour away. Well, that and only having one car. We both have to be to work at 7:30 and our jobs are 30 minutes apart. So, someone is going to have to be early. Hmmm. The office manager said my hours would be flexible, so I can ask her if I can work 7-4 on Tuesdays and Fridays and work 7:30-4:30 on Thursdays. That would be perfect because then Caleb could take the car every day except Thursdays. I hope I get this job! Oh, and did I mention that when I left the interview the office manager said they had one more person to interview and that so far I was her favorite? Yay! I hope it stays that way. She said her last interview would be on Monday, so she’s making her decision Monday or Tuesday. I’m going to call back Monday afternoon and ask about it.
The fourth interview was with an IT firm. It was more like a chat with an old friend than an interview. lol. We just talked, joked around and had fun for almost an hour. She had had some oral surgery a few years and and since my resume lists my oral surgery experience, she was talking to me about it. Then we started talking about the weather around here, the different things Caleb and I have survived (earthquake, flood, hurricane with flooding) and that tornados were next on the list. lol. And we talked about the military. Her grandfather died 6 weeks ago and he had a military funeral. It sounded like a very touching service. Anyways, about the job. It’s 8-5 M-F with flexibility in breaks and getting off work early. That would work with me dropping Caleb off at work, picking him up at 3:30 and then him taking me back to work and picking me up. We’d be doing back and forth for two hours, so I don’t know if that would be worth it. I mean, I’d leave at 3 to get him, we’d get back at 4, then he’d have to pick me up at 5, so if he went home he’d have to turn right around and go pick me up. Not worth it because of gas prices. You know, I can’t remember if we talked about how much the position is paying. lol. I think it was around $10-11. The job sounds okay and she’s really nice, but I’m not sure I want to work there. We’d be the only two in the office all day. And it’s almost 35-45 minutes away from home.
So, here is my ranking: Surgical center, oral surgery office, IT firm, youth crisis center. Most of them said they were making their decision on Friday or Monday. Isn’t Monday a holiday? Huh.
So, yeah, wish me luck that the surgical center is the job I’m supposed to have.
