A friend of mine wrote a blog about whether or not it is politically correct to wish someone Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. After I made a comment on her blog, I decided to see what other people thought. This is what I wrote on her blog:
It’s really sad how all of the Athiest/non-Christian believers are taking over the world. I mean, we can’t say prayers in public because it offends people and ‘infringes’ upon their rights, we can’t have pictures of religious symbols anywhere in public, people want to take God out of the Pledge, etc. What about my right to believe in God and show my belief? Don’t I (and other Christians who feel the same way) have the right to have God in my school and in the Pledge? All these Atheists who say religion is infringing upon their rights to not believe in God are taking away my rights in the process. If they don’t want to say Under God in the Pledge, just keep their mouths shut at that part and don’t say it. Don’t take away my right to say it. This country was founded on religious freedoms. So why are people trying to take away religious freedoms from the predominant denomination in this country? If they choose not to believe in a higher power, that is their choice. I just wish those people would stop trying to force everyone to act religion-less like they do.
Anyways, back to your topic. Merry Christmas is a phrase of love and kindness. If people take it offensively, that’s really sad. Personally, if it really bothers someone that much, they should just politely say they don’t celebrate Christmas and tell you what holiday they do celebrate. That way you’ll know and can be kinder by referencing what they celebrate. That’s my take on it.
