Since it is December and Christmas is bearing down on us, I’ve decided to run a special series dedicated to Christmas and the true meaning behind it.
The purpose of the project is to be a reminder of what Christ did for us and to bring more of Him back into Christmas. Personally, I think Christmas has become more of how much people can spend and what cool things they can buy or what the best things on sale are. It’s so commercialized and the real, true, reason for the day is lost. Reading the scriptures, discussing their meanings and burning a candle every night is a good way to remember Christ and the attributes He had and ways we can try to emulate Him. Burning the candle is representative of Jesus Christ being a Light unto the World and how we can share that same light through our examples of love and service.
I really do hope that as we enter the Christmas season that people will stop a little while and remember what this time of year is really about. When Christ was born, He brought hope and unfailing love into the world. As we go about our shopping and our excitement over decorations, we should all take the time to remember the people in this world without much hope and happiness. Remember those who do not have much and share what you have. Even if all you have is a smile and a few kind words, sometimes that is all someone needs to feel that they are not alone. And to give them hope. Merry Christmas.
Beginning December 1st, read one scripture reference each day until Christmas. Light a candle as you read to remind you of Christ’s life and example.
Turn your lights low and read by the glow of a candle, about the life of our Savior at this Christmas time. From the scriptures we read of His example and Christlike characteristics, His mission on earth so divine. Strive diligently to emulate each of these wonderful qualities and follow the example of our Savior each day. Not only at this special giving season, but throughout the year to remember Him and show love in every way.
